Glossary of Terms

WORD / PHRASE: Biometric
DEFINITION: A unique, measurable, biological characteristic or trait for automatically recognizing or verifying the identity of a human being.
WORD / PHRASE: Enrollment
DEFINITION: Receive a biometric template for subsequent comparison purposes.
WORD / PHRASE: Verification
DEFINITION: An updated biometric is obtained and compared to the biometric template previously obtained.
WORD / PHRASE: Identification
DEFINITION: Matching an individual to a large set of system users. This is a one-to-many search.
WORD / PHRASE: Authentication
DEFINITION: Verifies the individual is who they claim to be. This is a one-to-one match.
WORD / PHRASE: Digital Key or Cryptographic Key
DEFINITION: A mathematical term or other parameter used to define how a given algorithm will transform data.
WORD / PHRASE: Bioscript
DEFINITION: Combines a biometric image with a cryptographic or digital key and creates a secure block of data.
WORD / PHRASE: Algorithm
DEFINITION: A mathematical equation.
