QUESTION: What is a visitor card?
ANSWER: In response to the needs of the University community, the CatCard Office now offers rechargeable Smart Chip cards for departments and community users. This means that the purchaser can add value and reuse the card rather then throwing it away when the balance reaches zero.

QUESTION: What is the reason for the new visitor card?
ANSWER: The visitor card takes advantage of SmartChip technology. This technology allows the card to be revalued at any of Cash-to-Chip machines located across campus rather than discarding it when the balance reaches zero.

QUESTION: What is the cost of a visitor card?
ANSWER: Visitor cards are sold for $10.00, which includes a one-time purchase fee of $5 per card and $5 of spendable value. These cards are sold through card dispensing Cash-to-Chip machines located in the AHSC, Law, Main, Music and Science Libraries as well as the Student Union Memorial Center by the CatCard Office. These can be revalued using cash at any of the Cash-to-Chip machines on campus.

QUESTION: Where can I purchase a visitor card?
ANSWER: Visitor cards are sold through card dispensing Cash-to-Chip located in all major Libraries and at the CatCard Office. These cards are sold for $10.00, which includes a one-time purchase fee of $5 per card and $5 of spendable value and can be revalued using cash at any of the Cash-to-Chip machines on campus.

QUESTION: What is a SmartChip and how is it used?
ANSWER: The SmartChip is located on the front of the visitor card. The SmartChip is a multi-application chip that has the ability to store a prepaid value directly on the card. You can load up to $100 on the SmartChip. Prepaid value can be added in increments of $1, $5, $10, or $20 at Cash-to-Chip machines located around campus.

Use this prep aid value at photocopiers, printers, parking garages and at various on-campus vendors. Please be aware that your stored value is just that, stored directly on the SmartChip. If you lose your visitor card you will lose the stored value.

QUESTION: Where can I add money to my visitor card?
ANSWER: Visitor cards can be revalued at any of the Cash-to-Chip machines located across campus including the all major Libraries and Student Union. A map of all Cash-to-Chip machine locations are provided on this web site.

QUESTION: Where can I use my visitor card?
ANSWER: In addition to photo copying, the SmartChip on the Visitor Card is also accepted for payment at all campus parking garages, the Student Union Bookstore, and Fast Copy.

QUESTION: How can I check the balance of my visitor card?
ANSWER: Insert your visitor card in any SmartChip reader on campus to see your SmartChip balance. Press the return key to retrieve your visitor card. Each time you use your SmartChip, the beginning balance and the remaining balance will show on the reader.

QUESTION: What if my visitor card is lost or stolen?
ANSWER: Visitor cards will not have any identifying information on them and should be treated like cash. There is no way to recover the value of a lost or stolen card.
